How to recreate Prodigy’s “Voodoo People”

Submitted by on January 26, 2010 – 6:46 pm One Comment

Whether you love them or hate them, The Prodigy has definitely broken musical ground in an innovative way. The track “Voodoo Peaple” was one of my favorites from “Jilted Generation “, and Jim Pavloff has completely dissected the track for our enjoyment and education.

Much like the dissection of Smack My Bitch Up posted earlier, Pavloff takes us through a step-by-step method of how to completely recreate Liam Howlett’s legendary track in Ableton Live 8. Through the investigation of the archaeology of the track, we realize that it’s essentially a remix of other tracks.

Jim shows us the source of all the samples (such as Led Zeppplin and old soul records), how to manipulate them and chop them up, apply effects, and then how to assemble them into a finished, mastered track.

It’s just incredible to watch the genesis of this track from the original samples. Enjoy and be amazed.
