The MicroMoorg

Submitted by on July 2, 2010 – 5:11 pm 3 Comments

khoral is a 32 year old musician based in Nantes, France who uses his synths to write music in the pop/electro/folk/funk/whatever styles. He’s done a great DIY mod to the Korg Microkorg, installing it into a Minimoog-style wooden slant case.

Dubbed the “MicroMoorg”, the case looks fantastic, and it brings a cool retro look to the decidedly modern Microkorg.

It definitely makes it heavier and much more bulky, but it just oozes retro goodness. It almost looks… analogue.

For an example of a great analogue-ish sounding track befitting to the MicroMoorg, listen to “Breathless” by khoral:

doesn’t really seem worth the effort for just a cosmetic upgrade. If it doesn’t change / upgrade the sound, and it makes it heavier….why?

    • Michael says:

This is why: When this article got posted on Synthtopia a while back a guy named “Gordon” said this “If I had a MicroKorg that looked like that I’m sure I’d play it with more respect… weird but I’m serious. ”

I can totally feel what hes saying. Think if you werent very knowlegable about working a synth. Someone showed you a microkorg xl and a Minimoog. Even with out understanding the pros and cons on the sound you would likely think the sound was better in the Minimoog simply because it looks like it does..

It wouldn’t make sense if music was just sound! It isn’t! Plus, the dashboard being in a different angle helps very much usability in opperating the sinth when seated. I wish my microkorg xl + wasn’t so stiff I could modd it in a way I didn’t have to stand while operating the nobs.

Bottomline, Khoral, shut up and take my money!
