OK, I was just so infatuated with the washing machine drums video, that it would be criminal not to remix those drums into a song.

Concert Hands: The robotic keyboard teacher

Have you ever wanted to brush up on your keyboard skills without having to actually figure it out for yourself or without having to take lessons? This patented contraption is called “Concert Hands”, and it was created to help you learn the keyboard via muscle memory make you feel like an incredible dork while playing the keyboard.

The Concert Hands system comprises of both hardware and software – the software translates the song file into a proprietary format and sends it to the hardware. The hardware portion consists of sleeves that wrap around your wrists and fingers – the wrist sleeves attach to a bar and automatically place force your hands in the correct position. The finger sleeves then send 10,000 volts a pulse to the fingers which are supposed to press the piano keys, and presto – you’re playing.

Check out their wonderfully dramatic video:

Of course, as interesting as this is, the major problem that I see with the system is that it doesn’t teach the WHY, it only teaches the HOW. Muscle memory is great, but you just end up being a musical robot with no understanding of the music behind the notes.

From their website:

“The great thing about the Concert Hands is that it enables anyone who has ever dreamed of playing the piano, but just never had the patience to take years of lessons, to now achieve that dream. The Concert Hands has been tested on people from ages 8-80 with incredible results. It’s a wonderful way to introduce children to music”

Personally, I think it’s a wonderful way for the machines to acheive their goal of quitely taking over – first get everyone using Concert Hands, then use them as zombie slaves to do their bidding after the humans are all wired up the the system.
