Audio to MIDI madness
Akihiko Matsumoto from Japan has put together this Max/MSP tool that converts audio to midi. This in itself is pretty cool but then things get, well… demented.
Akihiko uses samples of voices, puts them through this tool, which converts the audio to MIDI, which is the routed to a virtual piano. It then combines the original sample with the MIDI piano version of the voice, much in the same way as the talking piano we wrote about earlier.
The result is a very strange voice/piano sound that would be at home in a very strange horror movie, just in time for halloween. Check out the video:

This is really neat! It reminds me of John Oswald’s versions of Glenn Gould: http://www.plunderphonics.com/xhtml/xglenngould.html
or in maybe a less high-tech version, Messiaen’s birdsongs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QdgUJss9BU
hey any ideas where i can get that patch?
thanks!
